Group Prenatal Appointments

Group Prenatal Care is prenatal care in a supportive group setting. Group participants spend time with their physician/resident, a nurse and other women whose babies are due near the same time as themselves. The group visits replace your usual monthly visits with your healthcare provider.
  • Groups visits are two hours long and cover both medical care and prenatal classes
  • Groups meet once a month and then twice a month as women get closer to their due date
    (10 sessions in total)
  • Women’s partners or support people are also welcome to attend the groups
  • Session topics include nutrition, exercise/relaxation, childbirth preparation, pregnancy problems, infant care/feeding, postpartum issues, contraception, communication & self-esteem, abuse, and parenting
  • During every session, patients meet for an individual visit with the resident and physician

Advantages

  • Learn from the experience of your fellow group members
  • The physician, resident and nurse are present for the entire group to answer your questions
  • Opportunity to anonymously submit your questions for discussion
  • No waiting in the waiting room. Group will start and end on time
